On the 4th of November, the BIS Model United Nations team – consisting of 23 delegates, a cartoonist, a student officer – along with 3 teachers, embarked on their journey to Seoul, Korea to attend the 12th annual Seoul Model United Nations Conference. The BIS MUN club was established at BIS three years ago and teaches students about relevant issues, conflict resolution and provides a platform for students to gain confidence with their public speaking skills.
This year, more than any other, our students were really enriched through the process of the conference, rather than just enjoying it as a “school trip”. Everyone truly enjoyed various aspects of the conference - from lobbying to debating resolutions, addressing each other in 3rd person and not forgetting, the creative analogies that were used.
As the President of the Human Rights Council at SEOMUN XII, and having seen the amount of hard work students put in preparing for the conference, I felt very proud of everyone who attended SEOMUN this year as they made full use of the opportunity of the conference and made it a worthwhile and rewarding experience by fully participating. By way of illustration, on the flight back to Vietnam, Min Yeol Y11 said, “During the conference, I made ‘for’ and ‘against’ speeches, more than 17 points of information and all the motions possible as I wanted to try everything out”.
With SEOMUN over, the BIS MUN club is now in preparation for the 2nd annual Saigon Model United Nations (SAIMUN) conference that we will be hosting in late February. SAIMUN is open to all students from Year 9 upwards and we encourage everyone to take part, as being part of an MUN debate is truly an amazing and unforgettable experience. So join, because we want nobody, nobody but you *clap clap*
Many thanks and much appreciation goes to: co-president Christian Sanders and all the other MUN club members who were unable to go to SEOMUN.
