The British International School, Vietnam has two primary campuses. The Tu Xuong Primary Campus is our city campus located in District 3 of Ho Chi Minh City. It opened as a purpose built primary campus in August 2007 replacing two smaller schools. The campus currently has around 300 pupils from age 2-11 years old. The An Phu Primary Campus is located in the suburban District 2. It opened as a purpose built campus in 2002. It currently has around 700 pupils aged from 2 – 11 years old on a large, spacious site adjacent to the secondary school. The curriculum of both campuses is identical and based on the National Curriculum for England, which has been appropriately modified using the International Primary Curriculum to provide an international dimension. Literacy, Numeracy and Science are regarded as core subjects and receive the largest time allocation from the class teacher. The class teachers also use IPC topics and themes to deliver the National Curriculum for England in History, Geography, Design Technology and Art. There is also a programme of personal, social and health education for the children. French, Music, ICT, Vietnamese culture and PE are taught as discrete subjects by specialist teachers. Vietnamese language is available as an extra-curricular club English as an Additional Language All lessons are taught in English and we expect all children to be fluent in English. However, we are able to offer support to some children for whom English is not their first language. This support is ongoing until the students are able to work independently in the mainstream classes. Individual or small group tuition is provided as necessary, primarily on a withdrawal basis, but also by means of in-class support. A supplementary tuition fee is payable for the EAL programme. Admission into this programme is on the basis of available spaces and after initial assessment of all non-native English speakers. Learning Support Our Learning Support Department is able to offer support for a limited number of students with mild learning difficulties. However, the school is unable to accept children with significant learning difficulties. |
