The British International School is delighted to be a member school of Federation of British International Schools in Asia (FOBISIA). This is a prestigious federation of 40 of the best British International schools in the region. All member schools are closely scrutinised on application and have to meet an extensive range of quality standards in order to be accepted into the group and to retain membership.
The FOBISIA Games is the best known and is perhaps the most obvious benefit of FOBISIA membership. The successful format for the games is unique amongst international schools and for the students who represent the school it is a fantastic experience. Each year we enter teams into the Primary Games, the U13 Games and the U15 Games where they compete against a group of 7 other FOBISIA schools with each school taking a turn to act as hosts.
However, FOBISIA is more than just the Games. Each year the very best musicians from the federation take part in a Music Festival. This consists of a week of musical tuition and workshops culminating in a gala concert. Other FOBISIA events for students include collaboration over community service projects, a Model United Nations conference, a primary Maths competition and a Drama Festival.
FOBISIA organises conferences where teachers from across the region can meet to share good practice, swap ideas and receive professional training. Some examples would be conferences for Principals, Deputy Heads, Business Managers, ICT Coordinators, Careers Education and Guidance teachers, Music teachers and PE teachers.
There is also a FOBISIA teacher professional development executive committee. The committee arranges for university lecturers from the UK to train teachers from around the region helping to ensure we keep our teachers up to date with the latest educational thinking and providing opportunities for them to study for further qualifications.
The school is extremely proud to be a FOBISIA school. It is an organisation of educational fellowship which benefits our students and our teachers in many ways. FOBISIA also demands high standards and provides an external confirmation that the British International School offers an educational experience that is amongst the very best in the world.
